TIBCO’s Cycle Stars on Track for Swedish Success

The high-octane world of cycling is set to ignite a major TIBCO Software customer event in Stockholm today with the presence of female pro cyclists, Team TIBCO-SVB.

TIBCO customers will have the chance to ride alongside them and see for themselves why these elite riders are the most successful professional women’s team in North America with sights set on the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Sponsored by TIBCO for the past 11 years, the Silicon Valley-headquartered team has proven to be a big draw at customer events, building on the surge of popularity in cycling, which has a particularly strong following in the technology world. As well as introducing the athletes in Sweden and highlighting TIBCO’s involvement to date, the team will also be taking part in the serious business of a World Cup road race, Vargarda CK, which is expected to draw crowds of thousands along the course.

As Scandinavia’s only designated elite female cycle event, Vargarda CK is now a major fixture on the international racing calendar and is broadcast on Swedish television. With big hitters such as rising star Lauren Stephens competing, fresh from her National Championship at the USA Track Nationals Points Race, Team TIBCO has high hopes for the course, which will see them pitted against the world’s best.

Technology on Wheels–A Natural Fit

Now in their 11th consecutive season, the cyclists remain under the direction of former Olympian Linda Jackson, who first approached TIBCO’s founder Vivek Ranadivé for sponsorship as part of a mission to boost elite-level opportunities for women racers.

As a lifelong supporter of women’s sports, the opportunity resonated with him and from the outset, a partnership underpinned by core synergies and values was cemented.

From drawing on the parallels of the competitive environments of cycling and technology to building on TIBCO’s broader commitment to support women in the technology sector, the result has helped to drive greater visibility and recognition of women’s elite cycling.

Fueling this momentum are plans to integrate TIBCO technology into the sponsorship.

In a sport where every millisecond counts, employing an increasingly data-driven approach has become a natural progression in the bid to optimize performance. As such, this is a significant opportunity for TIBCO’s Fast Data capabilities, including TIBCO Spotfire, to analyze training and race data to uncover the bigger picture in the sport, the next cycle in an already exciting journey.
