Listening to a presentation on the TIBCO Kabira Policy Manager I was impressed by the separation of concerns as “decision points” – the application of some policy by applying rules and making decisions – and “enforcement points” – the points in the process at which one applies the decision points.
This applies to all types of processes and services, of course, including CEP where one might choose to have every event as an enforcement point, or wait until complex events are derived before applying some decision point. In BPM the enforcement point is usually explicitly modelled as a business rule task in BPMN.
Meanwhile, much of world is pondering at the decision processes referred to by the decision points in President G W Bush’ autobiography!
