Ronald Noble, Secretary General of Interpol, presented on the importance of events, and the 2-second advantage, in police work, citing the capture of the recent Times Square Bomber.
Interesting fact: 500 Million air travellers last year had passports that were not screened against Interpol’s lost/stolen document database. Only 46 of 188 member countries test against this database, set up in 2002. In the US they caught 4,000 such attempts to use lost/stolen documents in 2009. Total hits were more than 28,000 in 2009.
Ronald added that border crossing events are where the greatest opportunities lie for catching global criminals and preventing their international operations.
