For all the opportunities that conventional big data provides to organizations around the globe, there is still a vast amount of unstructured human-generated data that has remained largely unexplored.

Nearly 80% of the information captured by organizations today is comprised of all types and sizes of human-generated unstructured content, according to IDC. Also referred to as ‘Big Content’, this data includes people-oriented data sources such as chat logs, email, documents, sales and service notes, CRM case notes, support tickets, weblogs, social media posts, and other such sources.

Until recently, technology solutions were not in lock step with the market need or realization to manage and analyze this Big Content. In many cases, the multifaceted unstructured data found in XML files or Excel spreadsheets etc, was difficult for users to comprehend and draw contextual meaning from, in relation to other operational data.
