… seems to be a popular way to describe “The Next Big Thing” or the CEP “Killer App”. This was a session at the end of the second day (the 3rd day covered EPTS business matters) and looked at challenges like:
- David Luckham’s concept of an event-driven, smart, Air Traffic Control system capable not only of the high reliability levels required, but also optimising routing to match traffic flows, avoid queuing, and be adaptive to weather and other constraints.
- Mani Chandy’s event-grid earthquake monitoring system.
My suggestion for this worthy list was:
- Distributed Healthcare Evidence monitoring and analysis: pick up patient symptom events (or “incidents” as the EPTS Use Case Working Group describe them) with patient histories, add treatment events, then build the grand-scale event-based case reasoning system to aid in future diagnoses and treatments. Not original, but a good social benefit at a time when conventional healthcare regimes are being questioned…
Possibly the EPTS will be beaten by others looking at social solutions. Here is one University’s prediction about using CCTV analysis to predict, and thereby prevent, crimes. Maybe they should be invited to present on this at the next EPTS meeting?
