Introducing TESSA

TIBCO’s enterprise smart system agent: ask in plain language, get grounded, governed answers back.

Reading Time: 4 minutes

One governed agent for your whole TIBCO platform that you can simply talk to

Ask a simple question about a live platform — “what’s unhealthy right now, and why?” — and you quickly discover it isn’t a simple question at all. It means building a dashboard, writing a few queries, and stitching together several consoles. Half an hour of Debugging time, and real expertise to know where to look in the first place.

Today we’re introducing TESSA, TIBCO’s enterprise smart system agent. You talk to it in natural language about your platform. It works out what you’re asking, calls the right governed tools, analyses the results, and hands back a trustworthy answer.

No dashboards to build. No queries to write.

How it works: a guarded pipeline

TESSA isn’t a chat window bolted onto a metrics store. Every question runs through a guarded pipeline, with a large language model driving each step:

  • A capability mapper works out what can actually be answered, and which tools belong together.
  • The agent — the heart of TESSA — plans the work, picks the right tools itself, and calls them.
  • Code execution kicks in when an answer needs a deterministic calculation. TESSA writes and runs the code rather than estimating.
  • A response guard checks the result is safe, grounded, and business-ready before you ever see it.

The pipeline is the product. It’s what separates an answer you can take into a change review from an answer you have to go and verify yourself.

Two things make it trustworthy

It’s grounded. Every answer comes from real tool output — never guesswork. If TESSA tells you an app is degraded, that verdict traces back to data it actually pulled from your platform.

It’s governed. Each tenant is isolated. Every call carries your identity end-to-end. And the tools are read-only by default.

That last point deserves emphasis, because it’s the question every platform owner asks first: is it safe to point at production?

TESSA looks, inspects, and explains. It doesn’t touch.

Built on MCP servers — and it learns skills*

TESSA’s abilities come from MCP servers. Today it connects to four: Control Plane, BusinessWorks, FloGo and Observability. As we add more servers, the agent does more — without changing how you use it.

Tools aren’t the only way it gets smarter. TESSA also learns skills: packaged know-how for working the platform. It ships with built-in skills from TIBCO, such as root cause analysis. You can extend them, duplicate them, or bring your own — so the agent gets smarter at exactly your problems, not just the generic ones.

What it looks like on a live platform

Everything below came from one short conversation in a real environment — not a mock-up.

Discovery

Out of the box, TESSA suggests what you can ask: inventory, health, trends, anomalies.

“Which data planes are behind on their BusinessWorks 5 version?”

One question, and it finds it: DP sales is still on 1.16, behind the latest 1.18.

Not sure what an app even is? Just ask. The revenue app — it’s a FloGo app, and it’s running. And what else is on that data plane? DP sales runs a mix of FloGo and BusinessWorks 6 apps.

Health check

Then the deeper look: how healthy is all of it?

One question covers the whole environment. TESSA pulls every data plane, flags the critical apps, and scans for CPU violations. Three data planes, all live — and it immediately surfaced a FloGo app in failure, plus two apps reporting no status at all.

Before anyone went looking.

Diagnosis, not a metric dump

Drill into one app and TESSA doesn’t just hand back numbers. It diagnoses.

CPU is healthy. But memory is sitting at 1.45× what the app requested. TESSA scores the app 80 out of 100 — degraded, names the cause, and tells you the fix: raise the memory limits, before it gets killed for running out of memory.

Charts that reason

And that high memory — where did it come from? Ask for the chart, and TESSA draws one.

Over six hours, memory stepped up at around 15:50, from 0.75× request to 1.45×, and stayed there. That shape matters: it isn’t a spike, it’s a deployment or configuration change. TESSA flags the exact time to dig in.

What it’s actually wired to

Four live MCP servers across the platform — Control Plane, BusinessWorks, Flogo and Observability. 84 tools. Read-only by default.

It can look, but it can’t touch.

In one short conversation

A handful of plain-English questions across three data planes: discovery, a full health check, a memory chart, and a couple of real issues surfaced that nobody had gone looking for.

No dashboards built. No queries written.

TESSA — a platform you can talk to.

And this is just the start. Query and observe today; acting on and managing the platform are coming next.

One governed agent for your whole TIBCO platform, that you can simply talk to.
