This past week, TIBCO Spotfire’s advanced analytics solution purpose-built for a client was honored with a 2014 Data Impact Award. The award ceremony, hosted by Cloudera, was held on October 15 in tandem with the Strata + Hadoop World Conference in New York. TIBCO Spotfire was recognized for the work we did in the “Advanced Analytics” category on behalf of one of our clients to support production line event analysis.
TIBCO Spotfire has worked closely with this multinational client to improve the operational effectiveness of their manufacturing activities. The client’s manufacturing sites are infused with sensors, which collect programmable logical controller data in sub-second intervals. Using data visualization and modeling tools co-developed with TIBCO Spotfire, analysts for the client are building mathematical models that can predict when a manufacturing stoppage might occur.
The predictive accuracy of the models used has enabled the company to reduce manufacturing defects by 50% thanks to improved control settings and changes made to the engineering process. In addition, the predictive capabilities allow the company’s analysts to focus their attention on problem solving instead of coding and software “gymnastics.” The use of this structured analysis will ultimately enable a data-driven approach to manufacturing yielding millions of dollars in cost savings.
