One of the greatest challenges facing humanitarian organizations and non-profits is the lack of data-related resources available to tackle pressing societal challenges such as public health crises, homelessness and human trafficking.
Through its commitment to help make the world a better place through technology, TIBCO has partnered with SumAll.org to help the non-profit organization gather, analyze, and act on humanitarian data in real time and make a real impact on serious humanitarian issues.

Data With a Larger Purpose
Under the partnership, SumAll.org’s use of visual data analytics is expected to help the organization quickly identify emerging trends and extrapolate hidden stories in data. Its multi-disciplinary team can then use these insights to increase public awareness and garner support for sensitive human issues.

Data in Action
For instance, SumAll.org has taken an active role in a project that uses big data analytics and data visualization tools to identify families in New York City that are most at risk of becoming homeless and take steps to prevent them from entering homeless shelters.
More than 12,000 families with over 22,000 children were living in homeless shelters in New York in November 2013, according to the advocacy group Coalition for the Homeless. The Coalition cites eviction as one of the top reasons families lose their homes and transition into the city’s shelter system.
Using data from New York City’s Department of Homeless Services and predictive analytics, SumAll.org has been able to determine which evictions are likely to lead to homelessness.
Through its use of data visualization tools, SumAll.org alerts social workers and other advocates about families that are at risk of becoming homeless, information they can then use to take preventive action.
