Business Intelligence Is Just Like a News Ticker

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hundreds of reports and dashboards push information to users every day, but how many of your employees are actually using them? The number is staggeringly low; Gartner estimates that only 28% of potential business intelligence (BI) users are actually using BI solutions. Many users are essentially missing out on valuable information to shape decisions, strategy, and long-term company goals.

Delivering Consumable BI

Financial news networks have perfected the way they continually provide relevant information to their viewers. A news ticker populates the bottom of the screen, updating important information about the markets. Imagine if you could provide your employees with the same type of “tune in” experience. No one wants to watch a show for 45 minutes to gain one minute of information; the same goes for businesses in that employees only want information that they can digest and use, not every data point or report.

As mobile growth continues to skyrocket, why not deliver BI in the most consumable way? A mobile interface allows employees to access a faster, more user-friendly, and relevant experience. A unique feature of mobile metrics is that it allows for peer-to-peer collaboration over insights and concerns.

Components of Mobile Analytics

Mobile analytics is a two-tier system—the application tier and the viewer tier. The application tier provides the main functional components of your analytics. These components support connecting to data sources, querying appropriate data, maintaining KPIs, working with data feeds, administering users and groups, and collaborating with others on KPIs. The viewer tier delivers the interface of the application tier. The service layer is made up of two subcomponents: authoring and viewer layers. Authoring allows you to author a KPI, and viewing delivers the KPI to the device of choice.

In a recent review of TIBCO Spotfire Mobile Metrics, ZDNet’s Alan Stevens notes that “the beauty” of the tool is that “it simply delivers the information you’re interested in without undue complication.” Just the way a mobile BI tool should perform.
