There’s no doubt enterprise social networking helps centralize collaboration, enhance idea sourcing and all those other business-value perks, but could having an enterprise social network actually make you smarter?
Throughout the years several studies have shown that the larger your social network, the more activity you have in your neocortex, which leads to more brain power overall. More recently neuroscientists identified a strong correlation between the size of your online social network and increased grey matter density for areas of the brain involving social cognition. The research was inconclusive as to whether it was the size of the online social networks that increased neocortical growth or whether that same cognitive growth caused the online social network to expand, but, either way, online social networks are causing cognitive and behavioral growth.
Now switching back to the social enterprise, using an enterprise social network to keep an eye on what your colleagues are working on, talking about, and gaining insight into what’s going on across your organization, probably has positive cognitive effects as well.
