“I Love LogLogic”: Lucille Ball and The Lowry Entertain Millions

Reading Time: 3 minutes

So much can be said about funny woman Lucille Ball. Aside from being a queen of comedy, she was an innovator in the entertainment industry. Changing the way sitcoms would be filmed forever, Lucille Ball not only became an icon in front of the camera, but a successful businesswoman behind the scenes. She was the first woman to own her own Hollywood television studio. Also, the “I Love Lucy” show was the first sitcom to be filmed in front of a live studio audience with multiple cameras, a technique still used in Hollywood over 60 years later. No matter if it was running the operations of her studio, or making millions laugh in their homes, Lucille Ball brought entertainment to many.

Just as Lucy aspired to bring laughs into the homes of those with television sets, The Lowry, a prestigious theatre and arts centre in Greater Manchester, England aspires to bring together a wide variety of performing and visual arts under one roof and open its doors to the best in entertainment. Like any successful company or famous actress, sometimes a little help is necessary from an outside source before one is ready for a close-up. Although “I Love Lucy” was filmed in black and white, what is most visually iconic about the comedienne is her bright red hair. Undeniably, Lucy was naturally talented, but the red hair let her stand out. She filmed many movies as a brunette, but her red hair became a defining characteristic. The hair color change allowed her to go from successful movie actress to Hollywood icon. The Lowry needed an alteration to help them achieve success as well.

The Lowry found that Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance is critical to business because the company conducts large volumes of credit card transactions online. Imagine PCI compliance as an actress’s audition. Without the proper technique and training that live up to industry standards, an actress cannot get hired. Without PCI compliance, The Lowry could not establish best practices that keep customer card information safe and private. Moreover, the company needed a PCI compliance solution that would work with their existing infrastructure and legacy systems. The Lowry turned to TIBCO LogLogic to implement a cost-effective and easy-to-use log management solution that meets PCI DSS compliance regulations as well as security and best practices needs.

The company at first turned to freeware, but soon found out it would not actually be free; the time and monetary costs of trying to maintain such freeware proved to be expensive. Sure it may have worked, just as Lucy could find roles as a brunette. However, there was a better solution: red hair. TIBCO LogLogic was the cost effective answer they needed. The Lowry finds LogLogic’s reporting capabilities extremely helpful and the company can save a great amount of time and money.

In the world of entertainment at The Lowry, TIBCO is like Lucy’s red hair; TIBCO is “quietly making it all happen” without being overly distracting to the company’s employees, or their customers. Audiences watching the black and white “I Love Lucy” show at home did not need to see Lucy’s hair in order to laugh at the jokes about her crimson locks. Sometimes what is most necessary does not need to be the center of attention.

Before the Security Standards Council could yell “Cut” at The Lowry, TIBCO LogLogic helped the company achieve their goals for PCI compliance, and also better their IT department so that it is now more efficient and responsive as to fix issues immediately. LogLogic has allowed The Lowry to run reports quickly, troubleshoot network problems, and offers a professional support team if any problems arise. Because of LogLogic, The Lowry now has a star on the PCI Compliance Walk of Fame.
