Why not help your colleagues know who you are by posting your profile picture to your enterprise social network? You’d be surprised by how simply uploading your picture and letting them know you’ve joined the network increases your engagement with the community.
The key to adoption of enterprise social networking tools is sometimes doing the little things that can help push the needle. Encouraging employees to update their profile information is important for community activity. I’ve heard many customers talk about how they’ve gotten to know their co-workers better and made solid working relationships as a result of using their internal social business tool. It on-boards new employees, so they can quickly know who’s who in the company; and connects employees who otherwise would not have been connected.
If there are a high number of users without a profile picture, simple rewards can help incentivize them to complete their profiles. It could simply be a post on their wall thanking them for uploading their picture. At the end of the day, who doesn’t like receiving an award for doing something that can take less than a minute?
Another good practice is to use an actual picture of yourself. Leave the Superman or Eli Manning pictures for Facebook. And remember, this is your workplace tool for collaborating with your co-workers, so it doesn’t hurt to use a recent, sharp-looking professional photo.
