Gary Cokins of SmartData Collective wrote a recent blog posting on business intelligence and analytics. In “Bending the Curve – With a Fist, BI or Analytics?,” Cokins discusses yet another blog posting, “Predictive Analytics, Business Intelligence and Strategy Management;” both blogs posit there are inherent limitations in business intelligence.
The solution, as cited by these blog entries, is analytics. Essentially, as Cokins writes, “just having lots of data and access to it all is not enough.” Business intelligence is the platform to deliver raw information, but analytics is the tool necessary to ask and answer the right business questions.
