Philip Howard at Bloor penned an interesting piece last week on the Future of Data Mining, covering the proposed IBM takeover of SPSS and what it means for the data mining tool space.
Philip’s comments included “Tibco acquired Insightful last year following a previous acquisition of Spotfire. And Tibco is not a tiddler. The company also has a leading event processing engine. Put these facts together with Tibco’s focus on the predictive enterprise and you have a company that has the potential to fill the gap left by IBM’s acquisition of SPSS.“
In possibly related news, TIBCO has joined the Data Mining Group, developers of the PMML standard, with both analytics and CEP groups represented.
