CEP Standards – OMG getting in on the act…

I noticed that the OMG Analysis and Design Task Force has a survey by Robert Covington of “Event Driven Architecture” related standards. EDA is of course not equivalent to CEP: CEP is a technology used for processing events and so is certainly event-driven, but can be compared with simple event processing and ESP as event consumers; EDA should also cover the event messaging infrastructure too. Events can also be unpredictable and asynchronous (… a bit like software standards, I suppose). News from OMG: there is a forthcoming RFP for an Event Metamodel and Profile (link for OMG members) which should be interesting… the event metamodel should be something like: “an event has an association to some payload, an association to a source, and has a datetimestamp, and may be linked to some history information”…
