All too often, analytics are underserved in business process projects—if not completely left out all together. But it doesn’t seem to start out that way… analytics appear to be considered nonessential and are the first thing to get bumped to the “next phase” when a project starts running behind. The problem being that “next phases” have a nasty habit of never materializing.
The days where analytics could be an afterthought are over. One needs real-time reporting and insights to stay competitive in today’s era of unprecedented change and Fast Data. Business users need the ability to consume massive amounts of complex data and act on what’s happening at that very moment.
Much like business processes themselves, there is a spectrum of BPM Analytics available to address different needs. On one side of the spectrum, you have reporting for pixel-perfect reports and dashboards, and on the other side, Business Intelligence for ad hoc-analyses, and predictive forecasts and simulations.
Reporting has an extremely wide audience across the organization and is used when you already know the questions you want answers to. Meanwhile, Business Intelligence is all about discovering insights and is used by a much smaller audience. Many enterprise mission-critical processes will require a bit of all types of analyses to satisfy all audiences. Check out this presentation to learn more about the different audiences and their needs.
