The Gartner Magic Quadrant for “On-Premises Application Integration” has been released to the usual fanfare. TIBCO is proud to be named a Leader in this space once again. We see application integration as one of the sharpest tools in our toolbox, and one which our customers rely on to improve their understanding, access, management, and decisions based on data sets from diverse systems.
The application integration space remains high profile for analysts as enterprises increasingly need ways to connect different types of applications for a cohesive view of their systems. Ad-hoc, point-to-point system connectors don’t get the job done anymore, as data correlated through a publish/subscribe method delivers faster and more sophisticated information on a structural level—the difference between an intelligent backbone of systems and messy spaghetti-like architecture.
If a legacy billing system like the one used by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), the world’s largest finance and accounting operation which happens to still run on COBOL, plans to roll out a new SaaS-based web or mobile portal, they would need complex enterprise-grade integration. While this example is extreme—the largest billing system also runs on the oldest backend—all organizations have mission-critical legacy systems which need to be fully integrated with any new initiative, without disrupting the day-to-day and maintaining service levels.
With massive increases in using cloud as a deployment strategy, a rapidly growing demand for more agile SaaS development, and a complete shake-up of old development paradigms, integration is more important than ever before.
