Business Intelligence, In-Memory, In 2 Seconds

Reading Time: < 1 minute

At our recent Tibco Business Intelligence conference, we talked a lot about the “two second advantage.”  What is the hook of the two second advantage?

Tibco CEO walked attendees through the two second advantage that companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon enjoy.  These companies are gaining the two second business intelligence advantage by using in-memory information stores rather than traditional relation database management systems (RDMS).  As this ZDNet article points out, the speed advantage provides near real-time data and event processing and business intelligence for organizations, including:

Interpol – for passport management

OfficeMax – for inventory management and order fulfillment

PepsiCo – for transportation management and logistics.

How do you feel about two seconds?  Does two seconds equal near real-time for you?  Does it matter?  What is the time (latency) that makes you lose sleep?
