“Meaningful change will not occur until commanders at all levels take responsibility for intelligence.” We would argue that you could change the work “commanders” in this quote to “executives”, “managers”, and “users” and it works just fine for business intelligence projects.
The above quote is from a report focused on intelligence in Afghanistan. The report, “Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan” is an amazing, longish, and brutally honest read focusing on problems and opportunities in Afghanistan surrounding the gathering and use of intelligence. While obviously not focused on the business community and business intelligence we found the discussion of the roles of analysts, intelligence, information brokers, information centers and the focus on leadership responsibility surrounding intelligence held many parallels to what we see in the field.
