While business intelligence projects are rarely high on the list of “abandoned” IT projects, one can assume that more than a few business intelligence initiatives were started, but not finished. Theoretically, the number of reasons for business intelligence projects stalling out can be as varied as the organizations’ turning to business intelligence.
What causes delays and abandonment in business intelligence adoption? A large range of reasons: poor choice in software, ill-defined project scope, other IT priorities, changing IT leadership and more. In fact, in a recent article on ITBusinessEdge, Dan Vesset of IDC points out that business culture can have a significant impact on the adoption of business intelligence.
What do you think about this? Has your business culture helped – or hindered – your efforts to use business intelligence for better decision making?
