Automation Is About to Get Personal (and Just a Little Weird)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dear Mom,

You will not believe what a silly week I’ve had at Dreamforce, the weirdest conference on the planet!

I started out by watching the most head-scratching keynote. Mark Benioff actually crab-walked onstage yelling Bazinga! in front of thousands of opera-singing attendees.

If that sounded odd, it was. This blurb came from our booth at Dreamforce, where we are having fun with Mad Libs. Mad Libs are a game where you pick words at random to fill in a story you can’t see, making it completely silly. We wanted an engaging way to illustrate the personal automation of TIBCO Simplr™, TIBCO’s newest product, which we’re previewing at the show. Personal automation means that any individual can set up a recipe to do something they need done with a few clicks and some configuration using their own accounts in cloud services like Google Sheets, Gmail, Salesforce, and many others.
This is how we’re doing it at Dreamforce:
  1. People visit the booth and fill in a Formvine form. Formvine is TIBCO’s form tool but SurveyMonkey or Wufoo would work, as well.
  2. Then, Simplr steps in to grab the words, as well as the attendee’s name and email address.
  3. It uses our Google Sheets connector to put the names and email addresses in a spreadsheet so we can keep track of the visitors in a more targeted way than the typical badge scan.
  4. Simplr then uses the Gmail connector to put together the email from our own personal account, dropping the words into the story, like a mail merge, and emails it right to the people in the moment. They can check their phones and read the story they created.
  5. After people leave the booth, another recipe picks up the names and email addresses, and emails everyone to say thanks for visiting the Simplr Preview.
The setup only took about 30 minutes and the impression has been very satisfying, as the attendees hadn’t expected TIBCO, which they knew to be a very “enterprise-y” company, to have such a personal demo of something they themselves could use.
Simplr is currently in Preview as we find users interested in getting a first look and giving their feedback. You can request an invite to the Preview at https://simplr.tibco.com.
If you’re at Dreamforce, stop by and see for yourself. We’re in the Moscone North Expo in booth 1234.
