DevOps Makes IT Easy

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We operate in a world where the pace of change is so great that many IT organizations are finding it difficult to keep up with the demands of the business. For business to remain competitive, IT must be agile and create new services for customers quickly.

DevOps Review

A business gets two things with DevOps—agility and IT alignment; or maybe more appropriately, these two things get you DevOps. Agility is the capability to move fast, react quickly, adapt, and make use of multiple resources. From a software point of view, this means being very flexible and readily adaptable to changing requirements. In the always connected, ever-changing world of web and mobile, this is more important than ever. IT alignment is more of a mindset—the business seeing IT as a part of the business. The best way to get the organization on board? Make IT easy.

A Success Story

Nielsen has successfully deployed TIBCO as part of its integration strategy. Two critical pieces of the platform have empowered them to make DevOps a reality—BusinessWorks and Silver Fabric.

BusinessWorks provided them with an open, agile, easy-to-use platform for developing new services, automating business processes, and integrating applications with minimal code. What are the keywords there? Agile and easy. With a no-code graphical interface, connecting applications is as easy as dropping resources from a rich set of palettes into the integration window. This ease of use and enterprise scale empowers Nielsen to manage a huge application infrastructure. BusinessWorks allowed them to break into the “development” side of DevOps.

On the other hand, Silver Fabric has given Nielsen the “operations” side of the DevOps coin. Implementing Silver Fabric dramatically simplified and streamlined the maintenance of its applications. In addition, with the introduction of Silver Fabric, there was very little change to the way the company had been doing things from a development perspective. Simple equals easy, with no big changes to upset the apple cart. Running BusinessWorks on Silver Fabric has been so successful for Nielsen that it is now looking to move over its other TIBCO and non-TIBCO technologies to create a private PaaS.
