SAP is to discontinue support for the SAP R3 ERP suite in 2027, by which time companies will need to have completed their migration to the SAP S/4HANA ERP. Given the critical nature of the business processes and data involved, not to mention the complexity and costs associated with such a project, many organizations have already put plans for their migration in motion, but not all with the same strategy or speed.

If you are an organization looking to complete your migration, you should consider how to effectively make the move to S/4HANA, whilst trying to simplify and consolidate your SAP instances.

In order to prepare for the migration, consider the following:

  • Analyze core business processes and data relationships that drive your end-to-end business, including real-time integration of non-SAP applications with S/4
  • Improve the quality and trustworthiness of your data and integrate it into the core processes
  • Plan to transform and expand your business model, using modern technology like advanced analytics and API platforms to uncover new revenue opportunities

Additionally, in order to prepare for the migration to SAP S/4HANA, you must catalog your metadata, create governance of your master data, and ultimately extract and transfer their existing data to the new environment with the improved processes. Failure to do so will cause considerable problems with the migration.

Migrating to SAP S/4HANA will benefit your business and add overall business value by radically improving your business processes, leveraging your data for improved insights, and driving business agility. Through seamlessly enabling real-time connectivity and unifying data management, and predictive analytics, you can unlock the potential of your SAP investments to make faster and smarter decisions.

In this interview, Cyrille Robert, a data management consultant and the former head of the Center of Excellence for Integration at a leading global pharmaceutical company, shares his experience migrating to SAP S/4HANA and how your business can implement the same best practices for a successful migration working hand-in-hand with TIBCO.
