Annual SANS Research Validates LogLogic's Vision

LogLogic®, the IT Data Management Company, announced today that it has endorsed and co-sponsored the Seventh Annual SANS Log Management Survey. The key survey findings, available at http://www.loglogic.com/sans, closely align with, and validate, LogLogic's core values and vision.
The survey, released today, reveals that 89 percent of organizations now collect IT data in one form or another, to support either security, forensics or compliance business drivers. The report also highlights that this IT data is becoming more complex, as many organizations are now collecting data from not only traditional IT equipment, but increasingly from physical plant systems, mobile platforms and point-of-sale devices. All of these sources are readily incorporated into LogLogic's 360 Insight initiative and the company's Enterprise Logging Fabric.
According to the survey, the most useful function of IT data is to provide real-time alerts. LogLogic identifies four core types of alerting technology:
- Basic alarms for when something goes wrong
- Trending alerts for when things don't look normal
- On-disk correlated alerts for simple conditions
- In-memory correlated alerts for complex scenarios.
LogLogic offers customers all four types of alerting, based on proper IT data management practices.
Further, the survey states that the keys to a good log management platform are consistency in format, collection, and storage with enough data to answer the "4-W's": who, what, when and where. LogLogic has embraced this approach of collecting, organizing and storing 100 percent of logs, from 100 percent of devices, for up to 10 years, using the company's Universal Collection Framework, coupled with the centralized IT Data Warehouse.
"Being able to access the original log information is a key factor in validating alerts and being able to gain trust in any alerting or reporting mechanism," said Jerry Shenk, the author of the Seventh Annual SANS Log Management Report.
"We're pleased to participate in this report, which we have supported since its inception," said Bill Roth, Executive Vice President, LogLogic. "The report not only reaffirms our leadership position in Log Management, but clearly shows that the larger IT Data Management market is significant. It also demonstrates that there is a clear and persistent need from enterprise customers, which we believe we can uniquely fill."
