Energy Australia Keeps the Lights on for 1.6 Million Homes and Businesses with Smart Meter Management Powered by TIBCO Software

Real-Time Information from Multiple Sources Provides Energy Australia and End Users with Enhanced Decision-Making Capabilities

16 June, 2010

TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) today announced that Energy Australia has employed TIBCO solutions as the backbone for its Advanced Metering Infrastructure that allows the company to manage its metering by providing a platform for integrating all its metering systems and services.

Meter Data Management in utilities has traditionally been dominated by a few large software vendors offering inflexible legacy applications with unfriendly user interfaces. These systems typically focus on discrete functions, rather than holistic end to end processes around the management of business processes encompassing the meter, as well as:

  • meter to cash
  • meter to customer
  • meter to service provider
  • meter to market operator

Energy Australia is making extensive use of TIBCO's BPM suite to manage the rollout of Smart Meters and orchestrate all of the above metering transaction types with both the energy markets and its own internal systems.

Meter Data Management

The use of TIBCO products as the foundation platform has allowed Energy Australia to realize significant efficiencies in data entry and integrity, which has led to significant improvements in customer service and improved turnaround times. This also has provided EnergyAustralia with a real-time view of the customer and facilitated the scalability and robustness for a 4000 times increase in data volumes from the new Smart Meters.

Powered by TIBCO, Energy Australia's Advanced Metering Infrastructure allows business users to manage the metering lifecycle far more efficiently than by using a suite of disparate applications.

Central to its integration architecture to manage interactions with energy markets, Energy Australia has:

  • Created a common hosting framework, with more than 150 integration links, between the company's disparate systems with TIBCO ActiveMatrix® ServiceGrid, and TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™
  • Automated workflows and streamlined the handling of service orders for connection and disconnection of electricity services leveraging TIBCO iProcess™ Suite
  • Intelligently analyzed large volumes of data in real time for enhanced decision-making capabilities using TIBCO BusinessEvents™
  • Created an Extended Enterprise Service Bus using TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Bus for applications from other vendors through the use of ActiveMatrix Containers (.NET and Java) and ActiveMatrix Adapters.

Additionally, TIBCO® General Interface provides a single view and simple business user console for a host of legacy applications. In the background, ActiveMatrix and iProcess product suites are used to integrate and orchestrate technical interfaces into seamless process driven functions.
