TIBCO’s Advanced Analytics Solution, Purpose-Built for a Client, Recognized as Winner at Data Impact Awards
TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX), a global leader in infrastructure and business intelligence software, today announced that its advanced analytics solution, purpose-built for a client, was recognized as a winner at the second annual Data Impact Awards ceremony held in New York City on October 15th, in tandem with the Strata + Hadoop World 2014 conference.
The Data Impact Awards, presented by Cloudera, recognize organizations running CDH for the applications they’ve built using Apache Hadoop™, and for the impact their projects are having on the organization, business and/or society at large. There were seven categories recognizing achievements with CDH, including business impact, social impact, advanced analytics, and security and compliance.
“We congratulate TIBCO Spotfire® for winning the 2014 Data Impact Award in the Advanced Analytics category,” said Alan Saldich, vice president, marketing, Cloudera. “The nominations are judged by third-party industry analysts and thought leaders who perform rigorous evaluation of all the submissions. The TIBCO Spotfire solution that was purpose-built for their client is a true testament of complex Hadoop-powered projects that drive incremental business value and deliver transformational benefits from Big Data.”
"We are thrilled that one of our clients was recognized in the Advanced Analytics category for its solution, built with TIBCO Spotfire," said Michael O’Connell, chief data scientist, TIBCO. "TIBCO Spotfire makes complex, Big Data problems simple for end-users. Combined with TIBCO® Enterprise Runtime for R running on the nodes, Big Data prep and analysis is simple – in this case, enabling lines to run smoothly and production to be optimized."
TIBCO built extensions of its TIBCO Spotfire analytics platform for one client to support production line event analysis, improving product quality and supply chain efficiency. The client’s global manufacturing sites are peppered with sensors collecting Programmable Logical Controller (PLC) data in sub-second intervals. This data is fed into Hadoop, and with data visualization and modeling tools co-developed with Spotfire®, analysts are building mathematical models that predict when a manufacturing line stoppage might occur.
In evaluating the predictive accuracy of the models used in this environment, the client saw the potential to reduce defects by 50% through improved control settings and changes made to the engineering process, and its analysts could focus on problem solving rather than coding and software “gymnastics.” Providing this structured analysis method will ultimately enable data-driven change of the manufacturing process, potentially yielding millions of dollars in cost-savings benefits.
