Social Media Analytics App Lets Sports Fans Analyze Activity on Twitter to Find Most Popular Athletes and Trends in London, Including Sentiment Analysis of Positive and Negative Tweets

Somerville, Mass., July 31, 2012 - With the 2012 London Games upon us, the overwhelming volume of "Big Data" or social media data available can be challenging to digest. That's why TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) and Attivio have partnered to offer a web-based social media analytics application to explore this data, based on the past 24 hours of activity on Twitter from athletes, fans and even detractors. The "London Athletes Social Mania" application allows anyone, anywhere with a web browser to analyze tweets on Twitter surrounding the event with interactive data visualizations and advanced text analytics that give instant insight into top trending athletes and phrases, including the positive or negative sentiment associated with those tweets.

The easy-to-use application provides an interactive dashboard through which any user can complete a free-form query of any athlete, sport, or keyword and translate the results into an interactive data visualization that they can fully explore. For example, a user can search "Ryan Lochte" and the application will generate a linear graph displaying activity on Twitter containing the term "Ryan Lochte," broken down by day (or hour), including a distinction between the positive or negative reactions affiliated with the tweets mentioning his name. The London Athletes Social Mania application also offers regularly updated "Quick Insights" based on tracking and analysis of ongoing conversations and interaction taking place on Twitter.

Other key features include the ability to:

  • View all of the trending subjects in tweets around the games, including the phrases being used the most on Twitter, and a drill down into the positive or negative sentiment of the tweets mentioning those phrases.
  • Browse and display most popular athletes by sport or country, based on tweets.
  • Drill into specific athletes' social dashboards to see a breakdown of when they are being tweeted about and the emotion related to those tweets.
  • View blogs and news coverage links garnering the most tweets related to the athletes.
