Vodafone Boosts Quality of Customer Service with TIBCO Complex Event Processing Software
TIBCO BusinessEvents Provides Framework for Operational Visibility and Improved Decision Making
MUNICH, October 19, 2006 - TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX), a leading business integration and process management software company that enables real –time business, today announced that Vodafone is using TIBCO® BusinessEvents™ to achieve greater operational insight into processes and business-critical, value –added services. TIBCO´s complex event processing (CEP) software helps to increase customer satisfaction and retention and lower costs throughout the enterprise by discerning patterns and trends that would otherwise go unnoticed.
"Quality of service is essential to a successful business," said Martin Tewes, Group Leader O&M for IT Services at Vodafone D2 GmbH in Germany. "To provide a superior customer experience we need to be able to intervene in processes that are actually running. In order to do that, we need to be able to analyse every event across our network and IT systems. We also need to be immediately alerted about potential events that could lead to errors. TIBCO BusinessEvents enables us to do all of this and pinpoint all the information we need to be more agile and proactive."
TIBCO BusinessEvents uses a model –driven approach to collect, filter and correlate events with respective business processes to identify meaningful patterns. Single events that relate to each other are correlated to form a complete process, applying rules and threshold values. TIBCO BusinessEvents monitors individual events to check that they are behaving as expected to achieve the intended result, such as the successful delivery of a Multi –Media Messaging Service (MMS). The system will notify IT staff of any deviation from the expected process sequence, so they can intervene and guide the process to the desired result. The event status information collected at Vodafone for this purpose is called a "fingerprint" and the company processes 1000 of these per second on average.
Monitoring new customer services, such as the provisioning of the "Vodafone At Home" which allows for the use of mobile phones at landline tariffs, is driving the continual growth of fingerprint volumes. To ensure the best possible customer experience, these additional fingerprints also need to be monitored and analyzed by TIBCO BusinessEvents, as this is the only way to guarantee the highest levels of service quality and performance
Vodafone is using six HP Blade servers based on Opteron to ensure that it can handle the growing volumes of fingerprints, as well as the standard Red Hat Linux Distribution operating system. The company uses an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array EVA 6000 for fast storage of performance data. Vodafone says that they successfully achieved and tested processing and storage capacities of 9400 fingerprints per second – an almost tenfold increase on the previous capacity – while reducing the disk space needed by 25 per cent. The test system is currently being implemented for live operation. As a result, Vodafone estimates that it is well equipped to deal with its growing requirements over the next few years.
Vodafone has been using TIBCO BusinessEvents since the summer of 2005 and recently replaced the jointly developed pilot version, in use since 2003, following a three-month migration project. As a result, Vodafone benefits from an increase in functionality of about 80 percent.
"Vodafone's approach to end-to-end Customer Experience Management using TIBCO CEP software is both innovative and visionary," said Ricardo Gomez-Ulmke, vice president, Global Communications Practice, TIBCO Software Inc. "Vodafone is now able to identify and monitor individual events, transactions and key performance indicators in real time and detail to more effectively capitalize on opportunities as they arise. The result of this long-term collaborative partnership is impressive – we have jointly produced a highly scalable solution that meets the needs of telecom operators."
Vodafone is making further plans to also use TIBCO BusinessEvents in Germany to monitor additional services at various Vodafone subsidiaries in other countries. The company's MMS service in Italy is currently being monitored using TIBCO BusinessEvents from Germany.
