TIBCO and Siebel Systems Collaborate to Deliver Best-Practice Business Processes for Universal Application Network

TIBCO Software Provides a Design Tool for Best Practices to Reduce Costs and Speed Deployment

Palo Alto and San Mateo, CA, September 16, 2002 - TIBCO Software Inc. (Nasdaq: TIBX) and Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SEBL), a leading provider of multichannel eBusiness applications software, today announced the companies are leveraging their joint partnership to deliver prepackaged best-practice business processes for Universal Application Network. Siebel Systems is using TIBCO's design tool to develop these business processes for Universal Application Network to address complex application integration challenges and minimize the need for customization, speeding the deployment and lowering the total cost of ownership.

As organizations struggle to unify disparate business processes and applications, integration is one of the key corporate constraints on revenue growth, increased productivity, and business performance visibility. Application integration has traditionally required custom-built business processes, which are very expensive to develop and maintain. Universal Application Network dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of application integration, enabling organizations for the first time to cost-effectively develop and deploy cross-application business processes. Based on XML and Web Services industry standards, Universal Application Network enables organizations to select best-in-class applications and ensures that they are not locked into vendor-specific proprietary architectures. Universal Application Network includes three primary components:

  • Business Process Design Tool–A selection of business process design tools for modeling and configuring existing business processes and creating new ones. TIBCO's BusinessWorks Process Modeling Tool enables organizations to model and configure existing best-practice business processes for Universal Application Network resulting in substantially reduced integration and implementation time and cost. A business analyst can use the business process design tool to describe the business process at a level that is application-independent and an application developer can further define details by providing process flows indicating how a specific application accomplishes those steps.
  • Best-Practice Business Process Library–A library of prepackaged, industry-specific business processes based on best practices prebuilt, quality-assured, and provided by Siebel Systems. These business processes can be executed across multiple applications, departments, organizations, and enterprises. Siebel Systems is building this business process library, using the TIBCO business process design tool that enables users to design, configure, modify, and extend business processes for Universal Application Network. These business process design tools can import and export standards-based XML representations of business processes.
  • Integration Server–An integration server executes business processes, created by the business process design tool, and coordinates interapplication communication.

The result is a vendor-independent application integration solution that enables organizations to rapidly respond to business opportunities, optimize organizational performance, and realize unprecedented business value from existing systems. Because this approach is standards-based, Universal Application Network business processes can be deployed across a diverse set of applications, in multiple company divisions and business units. This gives customers the freedom to choose best-of-class applications and leverage their existing IT investments.

"TIBCO Software is pleased to be working with Siebel Systems to support industry standards and deliver best practices to make our joint customers more successful," said TIBCO Software Chief Operating Officer Raj Mashruwala. "By providing a comprehensive tool to model business processes, we are underscoring our commitment to help customers ease integration challenges and maximize the value of their eBusiness applications."

Siebel Systems and TIBCO have developed a suite of industry-specific demonstrations that showcase the power of business process computing and ease of cross-application integration using UAN. One of the demonstrations includes an integrated portfolio and order management system illustrating how Siebel eFinance, a portfolio management application, and a trade order application can be integrated in a seamless best-practice business process that enables retail brokers to proactively manage their clients' portfolios for achieving individual financial objectives. This demonstration is available to Siebel Systems and TIBCO customers and prospects at TIBCO solution centers.

"By working with TIBCO to deliver best-practice business processes, Siebel Systems continues to help customers substantially increase the return on investment from their CRM investment and dramatically lower the cost associated with integrating disparate eBusiness applications," said Jeffrey Scheel, Vice President and General Manager, Alliances for Siebel Systems. "This customer-centric solution substantially reduces the need for application customization, minimizes complexity, speeds deployment, increases end user adoption and success rates and delivers a low total cost of ownership."
