TIBCO Software and Teradata Announce Alliance to Connect Data Warehouses to Real-Time Business Systems, Enabling Operational Decision-Making
Companies in Global Partnership to Support Active Data Warehousing; Teradata Chief to Speak at Strategic Directions 2002
PALO ALTO, CA and DAYTON, OH, May 16, 2002 - TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) and Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), today announced their global active data warehousing partnership and the availability of TIBCO's new Teradata Infrastructure Pack.
This announcement was made today at Strategic Directions 2002, where Teradata chief operating officer, Mark Hurd, is speaking on the subject of 'Enterprise Decision Management' and how TIBCO and Teradata provide contextual business intelligence combined with enterprise data warehousing for operational decision making and processes.
Strategic Directions 2002, a customer and partner conference developed by TIBCO and Reuters Group PLC, provides executives a valuable forum to explore business challenges, innovative technologies, and strategies for success. Strategic Directions is being held today through Friday, May 17 in San Francisco, California.
Using this new software from TIBCO, companies can connect their Teradata data warehouses to their operational systems–including ERP, CRM, SCM, billing, provisioning, customer service, and order entry–allowing data to flow bi–directionally between the systems within seconds of an update or change.
This means, for example, that retailers currently using their Teradata enterprise data warehouses to analyze store sales can now get an up–to–the–second picture of items sold against available inventory. Airlines can use this new software to determine in real–time the lifetime value of each of their customers–an important tool for a gate supervisor who must decide which customer should be given the last seat on a plane.
"Our customers have invested heavily in the power of data warehousing technology for strategic business decision making purposes. Now this same investment can be leveraged for tactical decision support," said Stephen Brobst, chief technology officer for Teradata. "Our partnership with TIBCO is a key component of our active data warehousing strategy to allow decision centric information throughout an organization to be delivered immediately to relevant business applications, enabling decision makers to act in real–time."
The TIBCO–Teradata Infrastructure Pack software recently concluded beta testing at industry–leading Teradata data warehouse customers, including a European logistics company, an Australian telecommunications, and an American–based global fashion retailer. Teradata and TIBCO plan to target the global telecommunications, retail, financial services, transportation, logistics, and high–tech manufacturing markets.
How it Works
Teradata's active data warehouse solutions house an immense amount of business information about customers, suppliers, product inventory and financial data. TIBCO's real–time Infrastructure Pack extends the value of these enterprise systems by exposing the rich contextual information stored in the Teradata data warehouse to the rest of the operational systems. When a new business event is detected or generated, decision support systems can now analyze the impact of the event against the backdrop of the warehouse's strategic content to make optimal business decisions that meet customer needs based on historical, current and predictive information.
"The value of our collaboration with Teradata to develop tactical decision support will be profound across the enterprise to customers, suppliers, partners and employees alike," said Murat Sonmez, senior vice president of marketing, TIBCO Software. "Unlocking the vast amount of information stored in the Teradata warehouse while simultaneously harnessing real–time, user–specific information is a powerful combination for formulating intelligent business decisions in the event–enabled enterprise of today."
Active data warehousing solutions from TIBCO Software and Teradata are now available globally.
