Philips Semiconductors Selects TIBCO for Total Business Integration and Improved Processing of B2B Supply Chain

Philips Semiconductors Deploys TIBCO Integration and B2B Solutions Enterprise-wide Delivering Higher Levels of Customer Intimacy and Improved Internal Efficiencies

PALO ALTO and SAN JOSE, Calif., February 11, 2002 - TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX) and Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG; Amsterdam: PHI), today announced Philips Semiconductors is using TIBCO Software to help implement a state–of–the–art integrated and networked supply chain system based on RosettaNet's e-business standards. After an extensive evaluation process, Philips Semiconductors selected TIBCO because of the end-to-end solution they provide for both total business integration and the automation of business-to-business (B2B) processes and transactions with other companies.

By deploying TIBCO ActiveEnterpriseTM, Philips Semiconductors has successfully integrated its legacy systems enabling mainframe integration, real–time business integration and business process mapping capabilities across locations worldwide. Using TIBCO ActiveExchangeTM, Philips has automated their collaborative planning forecasting replenishment process. As a result, customer calls have been dramatically reduced through improved inventory management and customer satisfaction. Conducting business transactions with customers, like networking-giant, Nokia, over the Internet through the RosettaNet-based B2B process, has reduced the cost of doing business with customers leading to a reduction in overall total cost of ownership.

"Streamlining business processes both internally and externally is an integral part of our worldwide e-business strategy. We needed a complete solution for enterprise application integration (EAI), B2B connectivity, and business process automation to increase the efficiency of our supply chain, which ultimately, helps us to get to market faster," said Bill Roeder, director of Worldwide eBusiness Global Sales Operations for Philips Semiconductors. "With the TIBCO solutions we are able to interface using industry standards and obtain visibility to our supply chain, enabling us to make more accurate forecasts based on real-time information. The result is improved customer service and cost savings because we are able decrease the burden on our internal resources."

Improving Business Efficiency

The increasing compression of product life cycles has made time-to-market the primary key to success, and getting products to market quickly requires extensive collaboration between geographically dispersed suppliers and partners. The Internet enables buyers and sellers to interact more directly than ever before-letting suppliers open new markets and sell more efficiently while letting buyers find the best vendor for a particular product or service. The ability for enterprises to securely and efficiently communicate and transact with partners, customers and vendors is the key to maintaining a competitive advantage in the Internet economy.

To help enable this collaboration, the RosettaNet industry consortium has defined a framework for how businesses work together. RosettaNet has defined over 100 Partner Interface Processes (PIPs) that cover the entire spectrum of partner interactions including catalog distribution, inventory management and purchase order automation.

"Common business process interfaces are the key to enabling supply chain trading partners to use the Internet efficiently as a B2B commerce tool," said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO of RosettaNet. "As two of the primary players driving the adoption of RosettaNet standards for business integration within the electronic components supply chain, Philips Semiconductor and TIBCO Software are truly showing their leadership within the industry."

Philips Semiconductors was one of the early semiconductor companies to implement RosettaNet PIPs for manufacturing and is a founding member of the RosettaNet Semiconductor Manufacturing Board. TIBCO Software demonstrated early support for the RosettaNet standard by developing TIBCO BusinessConnectTM for RosettaNet, the only industrial-strength B2B integration server that enables companies to conduct secure, real-time transactions with suppliers and partners of any size.

"In just six weeks, TIBCO delivered on Philips Semiconductors' request for a proof of concept, demonstrating that TIBCO's products would meet and scale with both their business integration and B2B processing needs," said Fred Meyer, Chief Marketing Officer of TIBCO Software Inc. "Philips is now running on Cisco's collaborative supply chain project, eHUB, and will continue to see improved efficiencies across all levels of the enterprise as they adapt to the automated exchange of information over the Internet instead of using manual processes such as mail, telephone and fax."
